I describe my knifemaking as "Sufficiently Evil, Deliberately Casual." I take the function side of knifemaking very seriously. Things like edge geometry, blade shape, heat treatment, and handle fit make up the heart of a knife. But choices like polish, handle and guard materials, and the "flow" of a knife make up its soul. This is where I get to play and have fun. Finding that balance between practical and whimsical is where knifemaking becomes enjoyably crazy
